I’ve spent a lot of time this summer at Hope Centre Ballymena getting to know the people involved in running the charity, the work they do, as well as the people who use the services. I was asked to paint a street art piece for the front of their building that would breath new life into their street presence and the seek to make people aware of the good work they do.
As an artist it is refreshing to work with a group who place their trust in your abilities to represent their idea aesthetically. The people of Hope Centre were brilliant in letting me work with the objective of including the word hope along with a figurative element as well. As part of the project I took portraits of people who use the centre regularly and chose one to use for the mural. The facade was a big challenge to paint with the architectural details however the artwork was a great learning experience for me and was a pleasure to create something that will benefit the people in the local area.
Thank you to everyone involved.
